NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Jan. 25, 2001--Valentine`s Day is quickly approaching and you still don`t have a date. Where`s cupid when you really need him?
''Forget about cupid'', shouts Ken Gordon. ''It`s time to take the bow into your own hands''. Ken Gordon is the founder and creator of KenXtions (pronounced connections), a new audio and video tape motivational program that empowers men and women to take control of their own romantic future, without the help of dating services, chat rooms and personal ads.
The main philosophy of the Kenxtions System is to be proactive. ''Valentine`s Day is a great opportunity to spend an evening with someone new. It becomes the ultimate first date'', says Ken Gordon.
The key technique to getting that date is to literally use Valentine`s Day as an excuse for getting together. According to Gordon, ''your first step is to get into a conversation. My system, KenXtions provides dozens of creative icebreakers and hilarious conversation starters for almost any situation anywhere, including at the gym, on the street, at a party, on the bus and many more.''
Now for all those singles that have given up hope, here is Kenxtions six-step guerrilla plan for getting that perfect date on Valentine`s Day. So, On Your Mark, Get Set, Get That Date.
1) Make dinner reservation in advance
A positive mindset is the key to a successful Valentine`s Day. To jump-start your enthusiasm, make dinner reservations in advance. This can be made two months or two weeks in advance, either way you`re prepared.
2) Develop a Timeline
Time is of the essence. Since various techniques will be used at the different stages leading up to Valentine`s Day, develop a two-week timeline.
3) Hit the Streets
Don`t hibernate! Surround yourself with people. Go to a gym, hang out at the mall, walk into a coffee shop, go to the park, bars, wherever. The more people you see, the more people you meet.
4) Approach One or Two People a Day
Be resourceful. Ask innocent questions, try a couple of your best lines or use some of the ''Mentions Icebreakers''. Your main goal is to wiggle your way into a conversation. Once you`re in a conversation, end it by politely saying: ''If you`re comfortable and not doing anything for Valentine`s Day, we should exchange numbers...we`d have a great time.'' You`ll be surprised at how often it works out.
5) Brush Off Your Old Black Book
We`ve all gone on a date or two that never worked out for some reason or another. But as time passes, things change. If you`ve kept their phone number, give them a call and see what happens. Another tip would be to call people whose number you`ve kept, but never followed up on. Explain that at that point in your life things came up, but you`ve always thought of them fondly and you`d like to give it another shot.
6) Last Resort: Sob Story
With a one or two days left, don`t give up hope. This is where you last push pays off. This technique is the ''Hail Mary'' of getting a date. Walk up to someone you`re attracted to and politely say, ''As crazy as this sounds, I broke up with someone a couple months ago and to my surprise, I still had a reservation for Valentine`s Day. If you`re not doing anything on the fourteenth, we should go out. I think we`d have a great time.''
Finally if things never materialized for Valentine`s Day, don`t sweat it. You will still feel good knowing that you tried to improve the situation. Also, the best is yet to come. You now have 365 days to prepare for next year`s Hallmark Holiday.
