FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--March 31, 2006--The Mayor of the City of Fairfax, Virginia has issued a friendly wager with Gainesville, Florida Mayor Pegeen Hanrahan that is not an April Fool's hoax.

According to Fairfax Mayor Rob Lederer, he couldn't be more proud of the George Mason University men's basketball team for their surprising contention for the NCAA championship. So, in ultimate support of the university that borders Lederer's fine city, the Mayor has made this challenge: Virginia peanuts for Florida oranges, depending on the outcome of their contest versus the University of Florida Gators.

In a memo issued to Mayor Hanrahan, Lederer writes, "In the unlikely event the Gators win Saturday's game, I will send a case of Virginia's finest peanuts to you. In the more probable case that the Patriot's win, I look forward to receiving a case of sweet Florida oranges!"

Mayor Lederer will be on hand to root for his Patriots at the George Mason vs. Florida semi-final round of the men's NCAA Basketball Championship in Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday, April 1, 2006.

"This has certainly been an exciting ride for all of us in the City of Fairfax," concluded Lederer. "I couldn't be more proud of the way this team has represented themselves throughout the entire tournament."
