WGBH Partners with Open Media Network to Welcome National Submissions

BOSTON--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--April 10, 2006--Now in its third year, WGBH's Open Call: 6:55 Shorts is for the first time extending its invitation for short video pitches to a national audience of media makers. 6:55 seeks big ideas for small screens, including cell phones, PDAs, and television broadcast. Boston Media Productions will commission three films, two chosen by WGBH and one by the audience, for production this fall.  Successful applicants will receive financial and editorial support from WGBH, input during the production process from renowned media makers, and a place to showcase their work.

The call for pitches for innovative four- to seven-minute pieces is powered by newly-launched Open Media Network (OMN), a free service that will enable 6:55 participants to quickly and simply upload their work. In addition, OMN's viewer-rating system will help viewers select the winning entries. The Open Call extends from April 10 to May 26. Details and entry information can be found at wgbh.org/producingfortv.

Executive-in-Charge of WGBH's Boston Media Productions Denise DiIanni says, "The partnership with OMN enables us to greatly expand our reach and to invite many more independent video makers into the public media mix."

Previous Open Call selections are available on Open Media Network (www.omn.org).
