Selected By More Than 65 Critics As One Of The Top Ten “Best Films of 2001”; Available On Video And DVD May 7, 2002; “Strikingly original…nothing short of amazing.” - Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

CENTURY CITY, Calif--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Apr 23, 2002--From Writer/Director Richard Linklater, the innovative creator of Slacker and Dazed And Confused, comes WAKING LIFE, a witty and imaginative film that explores the hazy border between dreaming and living. Arriving on VHS (for rent) and DVD (for sale or rent) on May 7, 2002 from Fox Home Entertainment, WAKING LIFE has been praised by critics nationwide as “an astounding, one-of-a-kind movie” (New York Magazine) and “an amazing film that dances and vibrates with life” (Chicago Sun-Times) and stars Academy Award(R) nominee Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy and Wiley Wiggins and special appearances by Steven Soderbergh and Director Richard Linklater. The film is presented in a breakthrough new animation technique that has been hailed as “an entirely new art form” (Premiere). Originally shot and edited in live action, the footage was then graphically “painted” via computer by a team of more than 30 artists. In addition to its glorious style, the film has been extolled for being “as thought-provoking and touching as it is visually dazzling” (US Weekly). The WAKING LIFE VHS will be priced for rental, while the DVD will be available for rental and purchase for a suggested retail price of $29.98 U.S./$46.98 Canada.

WAKING LIFE DVD Features
The WAKING LIFE DVD boasts numerous bonus features, including commentary by Writer/Director Richard Linklater, Art Director Bob Sabiston, Producer Tommy Pollatta and co-star Wiley Wiggins; commentary by over 25 animators who created the film’s breakthrough animation style; feature-length text commentary; greatest hits from the live action version; Bob Sabiston’s animation software tutorial; a featurette; short films by Bob Sabiston; bios of filmmakers and selected cast; theatrical trailer and more. The DVD is presented in widescreen format (aspect ratio: 1.85:1) with English 5.1 Digital Surround and Latin Spanish Dolby Surround.

WAKING LIFE Synopsis
From the director of Slacker and Dazed And Confused comes one of the most imaginative animated features ever made. This funny, ingenious film, which Rolling Stone Magazine calls “nothing short of amazing,” explores the fascinating question: “Are we sleep-walking through our waking state or wake-walking through our dreams?” Join Wiley Wiggins as he searches for answers to life’s most important questions in a world that may or may not be reality, in “the most visually alive movie of the year” (Roger Ebert, The Chicago Sun-Times).
