Trojan(R) Nationwide Survey of Women Reveals Attitudes About Sex, Empowerment, Sexual Responsibility and Condom Use

NEW YORK--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Sep 23, 2002--Today’s modern woman is increasingly depicted as a woman in control of her life, aggressive in her career or education, dedicated to her family or actively evaluating her dating and marriage prospects. But is she also empowered when it comes to her sex life? Are women of the 21st Century buying condoms, initiating sex and demanding sexual pleasure?

As part of the launch of the new Trojan(R) Her Pleasure(TM) condom, a new condom designed specifically to enhance women’s sexual pleasure, the maker of America’s #1 condom brand wanted to know if women are taking control of their sex lives, and it got its answers via a national survey of 800 single and married women ages 18-64. The survey discovered that women, now more than ever, are taking an active role in making choices about their sex lives and safer sex options, and are proactive about seeking sexual excitement.

“It is important in today’s world, that sexually active women take joint responsibility for practicing safer sex and helping to prevent pregnancy by using condoms,” says Richard Kline, vice president of marketing for the Trojan brand. “Because women are taking increasingly more responsibility for their sexual choices, the Trojan brand is providing them with a condom option that specifically meets the needs of women, the new Trojan(R) Her Pleasure(TM) condom.”

“GIRL POWER”

First things first: How proactive and empowered are the fun, fearless females of today about taking charge of their sexual needs, trying different sexual positions, spicing up their sex life with toys or other methods or making sexual suggestions to their partners?

Of all women surveyed nationally, nine of 10 females believe they are more proactive today about buying condoms and taking charge of their sex lives than were women five to 10 years ago. The majority (88 percent) likes to suggest different locations or positions to try during sex. Regardless of age or marital status, the majority (65 percent) of females indicated that they initiate sex. Slightly more than one-half (54 percent) of all single females interviewed indicated that they make the move when they want to have sex.

And, as survey results indicate, today’s females, especially the younger ones (18-24 year olds), are spicing up their sex lives by using a variety of methods including sex toys, sexy lingerie and erotic videos/games. How’s that for taking charge!

THE “RULES” HAVE CHANGED

There’s no doubt that women should get credit for becoming more sexually responsible - overall, 37 percent of the single women interviewed said that they have taken responsibility for carrying condoms with them.

Forget about being shy, sweet and submissive - according to approximately one-half (52 percent) of all single women interviewed, if they decided to have sex with someone, and he didn’t want to use a condom, they would not have sex with him. Another 31 percent would provide a condom and insist he use it. The majority (69 percent) of the younger single females (18 to 24 year olds) indicated that if their partner did not want to use a condom once she decided to have sex, then there would be no sex.

“WHO’S USING AND WHO’S LOSING OUT”

Speaking of condom use, are today’s females using contraceptives, and if so, which methods do they prefer?

When asked about contraceptive use, six of 10 females surveyed indicated that they do use contraceptives. More than three times as many single women indicated using condoms than did married women, (37 percent and 12 percent respectively).

Why are they using condoms? The number one reason given by 69% of single females was disease prevention and for nine of 10 married respondents, pregnancy prevention. (While the pill helps prevent pregnancy, it does not prevent sexually transmitted diseases like herpes, genital warts, gonorrhea and HIV/AIDS.)

Females 45 to 54 years of age are the largest group of women who are realizing and appreciating the added benefits of condom use - they had the highest percentage report that they use condoms to enhance their sexual experience!

“WHAT WOMEN WANT”

So what do women want in an ideal condom?

When asked what benefits, if any, of condom usage would encourage females to use them more, a whopping 71 percent of all women interviewed and nine of 10 single women interviewed said they would definitely try condoms if there was a new condom developed specifically for women that enhanced their sexual pleasure. More than half (52 percent) of respondents not currently using condoms indicated they would try such a condom, if it were made available. Well ladies, have you heard about Trojan(R) Her Pleasure(TM)?

Also, not only would the majority of females try the new condom that enhanced their sexual pleasure, seven of 10 said that they would use condoms more often. Eight of 10 indicated that they would be excited about using such a condom and would use it to spice up/or add variety to their sex life.

The intrigue of using condoms that enhance sexual pleasure for women is so alluring, in fact, that more than one-half (54 percent) of all women interviewed said that if their partner or husband purchased such a condom, they would think that their partner were doing so in an effort to help satisfy their (the woman’s) sexual needs. More than one-half (59 percent) also felt that, by buying the condom, their husband or partner would be indicating an interest in trying something new and different.

Trojan(R) Her Pleasure(TM) condoms, made just for her, feature a prominent ribbing pattern of several raised rings situated near the open end of the condom in order to heighten sexual pleasure for women. Trojan(R) Her Pleasure(TM) condoms are made from premium quality latex, and are triple-tested and made in the United States to ensure Trojan(R) brand quality. They are available in boxes of 12 lubricated or spermicidally lubricated condoms for a suggested retail price of $8.99.
