LOS ANGELES--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Nov 17, 2003--Helping young Black men prepare for entrepreneurial success is the mission of a new workshop program, offered by the Economic Opportunity Center, Inc.
The workshop program will initially target college age Black male students and then will be offered to the general public. `` Today there are more young Black men in prison, than enrolled in college`` said James Roberson, the workshop creator and President/CEO of the Economic Opportunity Center, Inc. ``Young Black men face a major crisis; one out of seven Black men aged 25-29 is in prison or jail,`` Roberson said.
According to the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice, 29 percent of Black males born in 2003, can expect to spend some time in state or federal jail.
The Brother2Brother New Entrepreneur`s Workshop, will offer young Black males a positive alternative to jail and prison. ``Workshop participants will be offered the opportunity to identify their personal strengths, set realistic self-employment goals, learn team-building techniques and be exposed to wealth-building opportunities,`` Roberson said.
``By targeting Black male college students, the workshop will tap into an unlimited pool of potential entrepreneurs and community builders,`` Roberson said. ``Also, our workshop will be a vehicle for the best and brightest young Black men to meet their peers, exchange information and ideas, make contacts and form lifelong business alliances,`` Roberson said.
