NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Mar 13, 2003--Star Trak/Arista recording group Clipse, whose RIAA gold debut album LORD WILLIN` is in its 29th crossover week on the Billboard 200 album chart and Top R&B;/Hip-Hop Albums chart, will hit the road for a solid month of dates as exclusive opening act for 50 Cent, it was announced today by Antonio ``L.A.`` Reid, president and CEO, Arista Records.
Set to kick off at the Fillmore in Denver on April 1st with a ``KS-107.5 Presents`` show, the tour will wrap up at SUNY (State University of New York) at Binghamton on April 27th. (Please see full itinerary on the following page.)
Clipse, the Grammy-nominated duo of brothers Malice (Gene Thornton) and Pusha T (Terence Thornton) have come a long way since April 2002, when their premiere 12-inch single, ``Grindin``` debuted on the R&B;/Hip-Hop Singles chart. By the time ``Grindin``` hit #1 that summer (it spent 14 weeks inside the top 10), Clipse was on the way to a second hit with ``When the Last Time.`` The 12-inch peaked at #7 on the Hot Rap chart in the fall (where it spent 13 weeks inside the top 10, into the new year). The album`s third track, ``Ma, I Don`t Love Her,`` broke inside the top 20 last month on the R&B;/Hip-Hop Singles Sales chart.
Clipse was discovered and produced by the Neptunes (Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams) and is the inaugural act on the Virginia Beach hitmakers` new Star Trak/Arista label. The group was seen by a record-setting 12 million MTV VMA viewers (in the U.S. alone) when they joined Justin Timberlake on ``Like I Love You,`` his live solo performance debut - a role Clipse reprised on the single and promotional video. The song earned Timberlake and Clipse a Grammy nomination this year for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
Since the MTV VMAs, Clipse has been seen on MTV`s $2 Bill Concert series, BET`s 106th & Park, NBC`s It`s Showtime At the Apollo, the WB`s Soul Train. Last fall they loaded onto the bus for three months of concerts and radio promotion dates with Nelly, the Scarface mob tour (featuring Trick Daddy, Geto Boys and Trina), and P. Diddy. In November they joined Nelly for the first leg of his Nellyville tour.
