Drama Part of Lifetime`s Award-winning Public Advocacy Campaign ``Our Lifetime Commitment: Stop Violence Against Women``

NEW YORK--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Aug 11, 2003--Lifetime Television has announced a unique advocacy campaign in conjunction with the premiere of the Lifetime Original Movie, A Date With Darkness: The Trial and Capture of Andrew Luster which premieres on Monday, August 11th at 9 PM (ET/PT). The campaign is designed to inform women about sexual assault and brings attention to the little known drug GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) and its growing use on college campuses as well as a tool for sexual predators.

The original movie is based on trial transcripts of Max Factor heir Andrew Luster, a convicted rapist and fugitive who was convicted on 86 criminal counts, including rape by use of drugs. The movie stars Jason Gedrick as Andrew Luster and Marla Sokoloff as Connie, a college student and one of Lusters victims. The story illustrates the dangers of the drug and the pervasiveness of its use. Hospitals around the country have recently seen a 5,000 % increase in GHB cases.

Building on Lifetimes ongoing award-winning public advocacy campaign Our Lifetime Commitment: Stop Violence Against Women, Lifetime is using this opportunity to reach out to women about how to protect themselves and their friends and loved ones from the drug GHB. This is a serious and timely topic as students prepare to head back to school. As part of the outreach program, Lifetime is partnering with RAINN (Rape, Assault & Incest National Network), the National Center for Victims of Crime and several other organizations.

The outreach includes the following elements:

* The creation of an original Public Service Announcement starring Marla Sokoloff airing after the movie;

* Information on sexual assault and specifically, the rape drug GHB on partner links and on LifetimeTV.com, which will offer tip sheets with information you need to know;

* Postcard distribution to universities to raise awareness of the prevalence of GHB use on college campuses.

Scott Berkowitz, President of RAINN (Rape, Assault & Incest National Network) said, ``By sharing this story, Lifetime is doing a great service, shedding light on the real dangers of GHB and other predatory drugs as well as the impact that sexual assault has on women and their families. We look forward to working with Lifetime on this film project so millions of women, especially young women and their families, get the information and resources they want and need.``
