''Wickedly funny...clever and iconoclastic.'' Publishers Weekly (1979)

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Aug 12, 2004--To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Shel Silverstein`s ground-breaking adult humor collection Different Dances, HarperCollins Publishers and the Shel Silverstein Estate are releasing a gift-size edition (October 2004; $29.95). First published in 1979 and long out of print, Different Dances takes readers on a provocative, witty journey into the human condition.

Different Dances reveals the absurdities of our private obsessions, insecurities and neuroses with the hilariously dark and edgy mature humor that first launched Shel Silverstein`s career as a popular cartoonist for Playboy magazine in 1956. Different Dances is just as timely and relevant today, boasting thoughtful, satirical cartoons that reflect on life and relationships from new and revealing angles.

''Different Dances is the one book of Shel`s that truly showcases the wit and insight into human behavior that permeated all of his early work,'' says Mark Bryant, Executive Editor, HarperCollins Publishers. ''We hope his 21st century fans will read this volume and identify with the themes that still ring true 25 years after the book`s first publication.''

A poet and artist of keen sensibility and expansive genius, the wealth and variety of Shel Silverstein`s talents were many. In addition to his work as a cartoonist, he was a Grammy-winning/Oscar-nominated songwriter, playwright, musician, poet, performer and recording artist.

Silverstein began his career as a draftee on the staff of Pacific Stars and Stripes in the 1950s, and from there, created work for Hugh Hefner at Playboy from the 1970s through the 1990s, and some original material was even published after his death in 1999. He went on to write hundreds of songs, many covered by celebrated musicians, including Johnny Cash (''A Boy Named Sue'') and Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show (''Cover of the Rolling Stone''); he recorded numerous albums, and in 2002, was elected to the Country Music Songwriter`s Hall of Fame. He also wrote plays (more than 15 were produced) and with David Mamet, wrote the screenplay for the 1988 film, ''Things Change.''
