Company to Send Filmmakers to Five Locations, Resulting in New Digital Diaries Documentary
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Mar 5, 2001--Spring Break - and media coverage of it - will never be the same.
This week, ZOOM CULTURE(TM) (www.zc.tv), a new media company which produces and distributes digital entertainment over TV and the Web, announced that it is staging an all-out assault on five of the hottest Spring Break locations - including Jamaica, the Bahamas, Cancun, Mexico, and Panama City and Miami, Fla. - by sending fifty of its top Zoom Directors to cover the sun, surf and sins that will take place during this year`s annual rite of passage. ZOOM CULTURE intends to use the footage and stories that they film to create a raw, wild and edgy documentary that the company plans to distribute over both cable television and through videocassette sales.
Each of the five locations will have an army of Zoom Directors roaming the beaches, hotels, clubs and streets to capture the stories of a select group of individuals, following them from the time they wake up (probably about 2:00 p.m.) to the time they go to sleep - if they ever do. ZOOM CULTURE will then compile the footage and package it into a documentary program called Digital Diaries: Spring Break 2001(TM), the first in a planned series that will take viewers deep into the heart of the youth culture. The documentary will be cut in two versions, one to be broadcast over cable, the other a ''too-hot-for-TV'' videotape entitled Digital Diaries: Spring Break 2001 - UNCENSORED(TM) that the company expects to sell over television and through retail outlets.
In addition to having a roving band of Zoom Directors at each location, ZOOM CULTURE will also have another presence on the beaches in the form of promotional booths. At the booths, the company will provide beachgoer`s with the ability to tell their Spring Break stories, unedited, through ''Video Homepages'' which the company will broadcast over the Web. The booths will also be used by the ZOOM CULTURE Spring Break advertisers to distribute samples, hand out promotional items, display banners and gather e-mail addresses from the people, most of whom will fall under the highly-coveted 18-24 year-old demographic.
Massive Undertaking for Fast-Growing Company
''To our knowledge, this is the first time that a company has ever dared to send crews to all of the most popular Spring Break locations in the hopes of getting the real story on what the Break is all about,'' said Marty Lafferty, president and CEO, ZOOM CULTURE. ''It`s absolutely the biggest thing ZOOM CULTURE has ever undertaken, and it`s an awesome opportunity for us to not only get great footage, but to get our name out in front of other college students that we can recruit into our fast-growing Zoom Director network.''
The Zoom Director network is designed to hone the talents and creative visions of over 200 members across the U.S. and Canada, each of whom are developing digital content that ZOOM CULTURE packages into compelling, reality-based shows. Recently, the company announced the debut of Playground Earth, an extreme sports show that will premier on Fox Sports Net Wednesday, April 4, at 3:30. Playground Earth was created and developed by the company`s team of Directors, which now numbers over 200 nationwide, and is gaining an average 100 members per month.
Spring Break is another example of the company`s commitment to providing its Directors with the opportunity to gain invaluable filmmaking experience. Over the past couple of months, ZOOM CULTURE has sent its Directors on a number of unique missions, including recent coverage of the Sundance Film Festival. But Spring Break is...well, Spring Break.
''Spring Break is the world`s biggest college party, but we`re the only company around with both the resources and the initiative to cover the whole thing,'' said Lafferty.
