Celebrity Handprints for Bid on eBay, With Proceeds to Benefit Animal Rescue Volunteers

BURBANK, Calif.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Jun 20, 2001--Beginning June 28, Warner Bros. Pictures and the stars of ''Cats & Dogs'' will offer movie fans an opportunity to own a piece of Hollywood memorabilia while contributing to a worthy cause.

In the time-honored tradition of immortalizing celebrity prints in cement, stars of the highly anticipated July 4th comedy, in tandem with the animal characters they voice, will press their hands and paws into 14''-by-16'' slabs at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood today.

These unique momentos, along with other ''Cats & Dogs'' collectibles, will then be offered for auction online at eBay beginning June 28 and running through July 4, with proceeds going to benefit the nonprofit animal welfare organization Animal Rescue Volunteers.

Participating in the handprint event are ''Cats & Dogs'' stars Sean Hayes (TV`s ''Will and Grace'') and Joe Pantoliano (''Memento,'' ''The Sopranos''), along with their four-legged counterparts in the film, the nefarious power-mad kitty Mr. Tinkles and one of his arch enemies, the canine agent Peek. Honorary Mayor of Hollywood Johnny Grant will host.

Joining them is one of the Animal Rescue Volunteers` best-known success stories, the brave little dog William, who captured the nation`s heart last year after he was thrown from a bridge onto a Southern California highway and survived.

The charity auction, accessible on the eBay Web site (www.ebay.com) and via a link on the ''Cats & Dogs'' Web site (www.catsanddogsmovie.com), will also offer a variety of ''Cats & Dogs'' items for bidding, including special versions of the movie posters from either the dog or the cat point of view.

The Southern California-based Animal Rescue Volunteers (www.arv1995.org) offers food, housing, medical attention and foster care to homeless animals. Since forming in 1995, ARV has been instrumental in securing adoptions for more than 4,000 rescued cats and dogs.

Using a combination of live action with sophisticated puppetry and cutting-edge computer animation, ''Cats & Dogs'' brings the ancient and secret rivalry between cats and dogs to the screen -- complete with heroes, assassins, double agents, high-tech gadgets and, of course, a plot to take over the world. This isn`t cute. This isn`t cuddly. This is war!
