Technology Simplifies Image Access, Retrieval, Sharing, and Manipulation
SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Oct 1, 2002--TrueSpectra, Inc. (www.truespectra.com) the leading provider of high-performance server-based imaging solutions, today announced that The Ohio State University (www.osu.edu) has chosen the TrueSpectra Image Server to deliver images to students quickly, regardless of connection speed, and to allow researchers to easily access image assets at a high enough resolution to support their analytical work.
The current process to access and share image assets across multiple units and colleges is cumbersome and inefficient. The versatility of TrueSpectra will allow Ohio State`s Web Media Collective group to meet the needs of archivists and researchers who need to store, access, share, and manipulate high-resolution images. In addition, professors, who need to quickly deliver image assets to students as part of their curriculum and course work, will find the task much less time consuming and bandwidth intensive.
''The flexibility of TrueSpectra gives the faculty the ability to respond to questions that come up in class and drill down into details,'' said Diane Dagefoerde, Director of Academic Technology of OSU`s College of Humanities. ''The product is easy to use and integrate, and the URL Generators allow us to quickly build a custom teaching tool that both students and teachers will benefit from.''
TrueSpectra Image Server enables faster Web application development and simplifies integration with leading products and platforms including Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX, ColdFusion MX, JAVA applications, and servers such as BEA WebLogic, IBM Websphere, Apache Web server, and Microsoft IIS Web server.
Ohio State will build a custom tool for classroom use of high-resolution images, using Cold Fusion, Dreamweaver, and a SQL backend. The tool will be integrated with the TrueSpectra Image Server, allowing teachers to respond to students` questions on the spot, by quickly zooming in on images to illustrate a point. The technology will be applied to a number of projects, including The John C. and Susan L. Huntington Photographic Archive of Buddhist and Related Art, a collection of nearly 300,000 original color slides and black and white and color photographs of art and architecture throughout Asia, as well as the Instructional Media Archives for the College of Humanities that will be used to support teaching of over 80,000 students annually.
''Image serving in Web site application development is a clear need across a variety of markets and segments,'' stated V. David Watkins, President & CEO of TrueSpectra. ''Our product meets a real need of all Web site developers who want to quickly build sites that deliver the best experience for their audience. The Ohio State University`s selection and deployment underscores the importance the Web and visual assets play in today`s education, and highlights a significant market opportunity for TrueSpectra.''
