Northeast Tour Begins at The Lion`s Den on March 13, 2002

NEW YORK--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Feb 19, 2002--Mark Rinzel’s distinctive voice and crisp songwriting will be heard once again this winter with an official return to the stage on March 13, 2002 at The Lion’s Den in heart of the West Village of Manhattan (adjacent New York University’s Washington Square campus). Originally from Kensington, Maryland, Mark was one of the former lead singers of the now defunct indie band Poolsville, his powerful singing was peppered throughout their ear-friendly “slop pop” songs. Making frequents appearances at Asbury Park’s Pop fest as well as the College Music Journal (CMJ) fest and the Digital Club Festival; Mark’s stratospheric range added an edge to Poolsville’s energetic live shows.

A graduate of Ohio University (’96), Mark played in the band, Brinker’s Edge, a campus favorite with a strong OU following. He did solo shows to packed audiences throughout the bar and coffeehouse circuit of Athens as well. Over a period of the last two years, Mark explored other independent singing avenues, including a stint playing Judas in a touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar. The singer-songwriter has since put together a full band, The Sidetracks, which includes a lapslide guitarist that flawlessly compliments Mark’s unique vocal inflection and more wistful ballads.

Armed with a number of new songs, his lyrics reveal raw yet poignant observations on life and his own experiences. Mark’s on-stage strong presence and sharp wit is testament of his dedicated following and dynamic live performances. A number of Northeast tour dates will be announced in the spring. On playing the college circuit again Mark offers, “I always loved playing at universities and spring festivals. College students are by far the most informed about what’s going on with music and have the highest energy level at shows.”

The Los Angeles Times calls Mark’s voice “a jolt of pure electricity” with the Panama City News Herald remarking on his “heart-wrenching delivery” and the Amarillo Globe-News commenting, “his rock star looks and scratchy voice put to good use.” Mark’s songs and style expose the melodic influences of Elvis Costello, Elliot Smith and The Beatles wrapped up in a voice reminiscent of Chris Cornell.

The Lion’s Den is located at 214 Sullivan Street in Manhattan, 212-477-2783. Doors open 8pm; show starts 8:30, $8 cover (18 and over). For more information on the northeast tour, booking, and photos or to arrange an interview with Mark Rinzel call 917-251-5557.
