Access and Sharing of Files Now Safe and Easy From Anywhere Using WebFile Server
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Jul 23, 2002--Xythos Software (www.xythos.com), a provider of Internet-enabled file management software, today announced that ten colleges and universities selected its WebFile Server (WFS) product during the second quarter. They chose the WFS to provide secure file access and sharing for student, faculty and administrative users because it enables anyone with an Internet-connected device to securely access, edit and share any type of file by using its industry standard architecture.
''We are excited to be on board with Xythos,'' said Frank Tramontano, CTO at Pace University. ''We look forward to working with the WebFile Server to make accessing and sharing files easier with the various Pace constituencies on campus and off.'' A growing number of universities have expanded services well beyond their core physical campuses to meet the need for flexible education delivery, which in turn has created demand for secure file collaboration both on- and off-campus networks.
''Xythos products support the distributed and collaborative environment typical of higher education,'' said Edward Miller, CEO of Xythos. ''All members of this community need a safer and simpler way to work together which makes the WebFile Server an ideal compliment for both campus intranets and extranets.'' Students, faculty and administrators who need secure access to their files -- such as syllabi, records, lesson plans and assignments -- can now do so from any system, either on or off the campus network.
Secure file sharing isn`t just for students and teachers either. WFS is already being used to support worldwide research, helping ensure that projects stay on schedule and all participants are kept up to date. ''We chose Xythos WFS to provide a secure way to track research proposals through our internal review process,'' explained Wayne Wilson, Assistant Director, Medical School Information Systems at University of Michigan. ''We also plan on leveraging key features that allow us to search text and track versions of the files.''
Xythos WFS also makes sharing files easier with file versioning, check in/out, and the automatic embedding of file links (URLs) in email, substantially reducing the burden upon university messaging systems. WFS also addresses growing security concerns related to file sharing with features including LDAP-based user authentication and SSL encrypted file transmission protection in addition to providing unlimited individual file read, write, and share access controls.
