International Program to Bring Together Government Officials, Physicians, Scientists, First Responders, and Other Leaders from Top Academic Institutions Around the Topic of Preparing for and Controlling Bioterrorism Threats
BOSTON and LOS ANGELES--(BW HealthWire via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Mar 27, 2002--Harvard Medical School, Harvard Medical International, and Key3Media Group, Inc. (NYSE: KME) announced today that they would jointly present the first global BioSecurity conference, November 18 - 22, 2002, in Las Vegas. BioSecurity 2002 is an international scientific and educational conference designed to provide a forum for senior government officials, scientists, researchers, physicians, public health and hospital officials, nurses, and first responders to prepare for and learn how to control bioterrorism threats. The event will feature a comprehensive educational program with keynote speakers representing senior world leadership in the field, plenary sessions that explore common interests across disciplines, and a trade exposition showcasing biosecurity solutions from companies around the world.
''It is a privilege for Harvard Medical International to serve as a means to bring together professionals from all over the world, with very different perspectives, to collectively work toward solutions for problems of immense global significance,'' said Dr. Robert Crone, president and CEO of Harvard Medical International.
Harvard Medical School, Harvard Medical International, and Key3Media Group are working with a broad spectrum of organizations to bring together top experts from other institutions and other disciplines around the world to develop content, think about, and take action toward the next steps in developing a more secure society.
''The Pan American Health Organization salutes the goals and objectives of the global BioSecurity 2002 conference. Today`s world requires global actions and global solutions involving a variety of actors,'' said Dr. George Alleyne, director, Pan American Health Organization. ''We look forward to being a part of this visionary initiative.''
''BioSecurity 2002 is the first comprehensive global conference and trade event to address the threat of, and provide solutions to, the use of biological agents to harm populations and economies,'' said Fredric D. Rosen, chairman and CEO, Key3Media Group. ''This will be the first event bringing together the wide range of necessary audiences to create blueprints for responding to biological threats. With Harvard Medical International`s leadership we expect this conference to serve as the global reference point for issues relating to bioterrorism, coalescing science, government and media leaders to foster real solutions.''
The BioSecurity 2002 conference program developed by Harvard Medical International, a division of Harvard Medical School, will offer medical professionals, scientists and first responders continuing education and professional certification in the core disciplines related to biosecurity. Instructors will include internationally recognized scientists and researchers. Conference co-chairs for BioSecurity 2002 are Key3Media senior vice president Bob Howard, a former senior official at the National Center for Infectious Diseases, CDC, and Dr. Miles F. Shore from Harvard Medical School, Harvard Medical International, and Harvard`s Kennedy School of Government.
''Harvard Medical School and Key3Media Group are to be congratulated on bringing together a comprehensive program and renowned speakers who can present the basics on bioterrorism authoritatively and set the stage for a highly productive discussion of these unprecedented issues,'' said Dr. Clarence J. Peters, director of the Center for Biodefense and a distinguished professor of Tropical Medicine at the University of Texas, Galveston. ''The threat of bioterrorism will not go away, and we have to begin a real national discussion that can instruct the public, healthcare professionals, community leaders, and our government.''
The trade exhibition, running simultaneously with the education conferences, will feature the efforts of pharmaceutical, supply and barrier protection, laboratory equipment, engineering, infrastructure, and security companies.
The event will occur in Las Vegas, at the same time as COMDEX Fall, the premiere IT event in North America. COMDEX, also produced by Key3Media Group, brings together the top technology leaders in the world and this year`s major focus will be security in the data and computing fields. While the BioSecurity 2002 conference is an entirely new program, both audiences will find common areas of interest.
