SAN FRANCISCO--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Jan 20, 2004--Macromedia(R) (NASDAQ: MACR) today announced the Macromedia Winter 2004 Back to School student promotion. Through February 29, 2004, students may register to win one of eight weekly cash prizes of US$500. While students register they can view work from other students digital portfolios and vote for their favorites. Register or vote at www.macromedia.com/go/vote.

Students who purchase Macromedia Studio MX 2004 by February 29, 2004, can register for a chance to win one of eight weekly cash prizes of US$500. Macromedia Studio MX 2004 provides professional functionality for every aspect of web development and includes the newest versions of Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks and FreeHand. Studio MX 2004 is also available with Flash MX Professional 2004. For more information on this special offer, visit www.macromedia.com/go/bts

Macromedia will present a Peoples Choice Award and a Macromedia Expert Award to the winners of the Fall 2003 contest for each of three categories. The 18 finalists of the Macromedia Fall 2003 Back to School Student Contest were selected for their inspiring and innovative use of Macromedia products to build websites. Anyone may vote online for the student finalists they think deserve to win an Apple iPod and recognition on Macromedia.com. The voting site hosts a new Flash application built by Macromedia that allows students to preview other students work, further explore those students websites, share the most interesting work with their friends, and vote for their favorites.

``Macromedia student contests are an opportunity to discover what other students, around the globe and with the same passion for design and development, are producing,`` said Marc Gasser, a recent Macromedia Student Contest winner for best portfolio site. I found the experience to be a great way to compare my work to theirs, and observe and learn from each contestant`s particular style and technique.

``Macromedia products provide the opportunity for students to express their creativity, communicate their ideas, and build career skills for the future,`` said Penny Wilson, senior vice president of solutions, Macromedia. ``Some of the most innovative, exciting, and provoking work is being created by students. This contest challenges students to show off their talent, see what their peers can do, and get rewarded for their efforts.``

The student design contest is part of the Macromedia Innovation Program, which recognizes creators of innovative websites and applications built with Macromedia products. Winners across multiple categories including higher education, K-12, students, and e-learning are given software, grants, prizes or free training, plus the opportunity to be showcased by Macromedia. For more information on the awards, including a gallery of recent winners, visit www.macromedia.com/go/vote. No purchase is required to enter the program or to use the online voting application.
