Call for Entries Starts Today; Winner to Receive Up To $1 Million To Make a Movie

LOS ANGELES--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Jun 1, 2004--FUEL, the first 24/7 action sports network dedicated to surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding, BMX, motocross and wakeboarding, has created The FUEL Experiment, it was announced today by FUEL`s Vice President of Programming and Marketing, CJ Olivares. The program will provide up to 10 aspiring action sports filmmakers the opportunity to fulfill their cinematic dreams with a production budget of as much as $100,000 each, courtesy of FUEL.

''Recently, we`ve seen the emergence of a handful of gifted filmmakers who are not only skilled at capturing amazing action but who are also developing excellent storytelling skills,'' said Olivares in making the announcement. ''The action sports world is filled with compelling characters, action and, most importantly, stories. With the FUEL Experiment, we have the opportunity to nurture, support and expand this culture through narrative filmmaking.''

The FUEL Experiment will not only support as many as 10 filmmaker`s dreams, but may also put a production budget of up to an additional $1 million in the hands of the final would-be action sports filmmaker. The year-round program kicks off today with a call for submissions and a submission deadline of Monday, August 13, 2004. The FUEL Experiment is open to all aspiring filmmakers who meet the criteria and submission is free of charge. Guidelines, along with submission and eligibility requirements are now available at www.thefuelexperiment.tv.

''FUEL`s support of filmmakers will only push the level of our sports films to new great levels. It also shows that the network is really giving something back to encourage the future of our sports. It is an exciting time to be a filmmaker,'' said director Taylor Steele.

After an intensive evaluation of the initial submissions, up to 10 fortunate finalists will be announced at the 2005 X-Dance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, in January 2005 and granted a production budget of up to $100,000 each to shoot his/her film.

The resulting works will be screened to the public a year later at the 2006 X-Dance Film Festival. Then the pressure mounts, as the films and their directors` next film ideas will vie for the final opportunity to be granted a production budget of $1 million.

Throughout the production and judging, FUEL will capture the creative and business processes behind the making of the films, and create a 13-part, half-hour series for broadcast on the network.
