Players at more than 700 locations throughout the U.S. will attempt record for largest-ever DUNGEONS & DRAGONS game on October 16

RENTON, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Oct 5, 2004--On October 16th, DUNGEONS & DRAGONS(R) fans everywhere will attempt to set a world record for the largest-ever game-play gathering in a global celebration of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS` 30th anniversary. Played by millions, D&D; has become a cultural icon since its introduction in the 1970s. Known as the first ''roleplaying'' game, D&D; has inspired a generation of game players and game designers and led to the development of many other board games, card games and video games.

Worldwide D&D; Day will take place at over 700 locations across the U.S. (visit www.dndgameday.com for locations), plus many more locations across Europe, South America and Australia. The game`s maker, Wizards of the Coast (NYSE:HAS), has developed special D&D; adventures for fans to play at Game Day celebration.

Also marking D&D;`s anniversary is the fall release of THIRTY YEARS OF ADVENTURE: A Celebration of Dungeons & Dragons, a lavishly illustrated, oversized hardcover book that explores the game`s past, present and future through more than 300 pages of essays and photographs.

Scheduled for release in November, this unique retrospective of D&D; history includes lively commentary by a number of prominent actors, writers, film directors, rock musicians, game developers and many others who played D&D; and were inspired by the experience. Among the contributors are writer and producer David X. Cohen (The Simpsons, Futurama), television personality Stephen Colbert (The Daily Show), indie rocker singer/songerwriter Ben Kweller (On My Way), director James Merendino (SLC Punk), musician Ed Robertson (Barenaked Ladies),
Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter`s Laboratory, Samurai Jack), musician Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge), actor and writer Wil Wheaton (Stand by Me, Just a Geek), and many others.

Since its debut in 1974, DUNGEONS & DRAGONS has grown into a worldwide phenomenon that includes roleplaying games, miniature figures, novels, computer and video games, movies, and music. THIRTY YEARS OF ADVENTURE: A Celebration of Dungeons & Dragons traces D&D;`s evolution in vivid detail, from the game`s earliest incarnation to the latest edition under Wizards of the Coast.

Dungeons & Dragons products have been the benchmark for adventure roleplaying game excellence since the game`s introduction in 1974. Over the years, the Dungeons & Dragons experience has steadily evolved. The miniatures, along with the Dungeons & Dragons v.3.5 core rulebooks, are designed to take players through this year`s 30th anniversary and beyond. All new products are compatible with previously released v.3.5 Dungeons & Dragons adventure products.
