RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--May 23, 2001--The Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC), the chip industry`s long-term research consortium, has named 28 graduate students from 18 universities as the newest members of the 2001-02 SRC Scholars and Fellows Programs. Students and their universities are listed below.
SRC fellows and scholars receive complete funding for their tuition and fees and a living stipend for up to three years of study. SRC also places students with industry mentors and internships as part of this program.
Throughout the 15-year history of the SRC fellows and scholars programs, about 70 percent of supported students have accepted full-time positions with SRC member companies, and another 10 percent have joined university faculties. At the beginning of the 2001 fall term, the SRC will support a total of 54 fellows and 14 scholars.
''These 28 young men and women are among the brightest students in the world,'' said Virginia Wiggins, SRC manager of student relations. ''The semiconductor community looks forward to their contributions to the industry and the innovations they will impart to all of our lives.''
SRC scholars and fellows exemplify the dedication, intellectual curiosity, technical ability, motivation and creativity required for productive university, scientific and technical research. Once they begin their careers, the SRC-supported students help bring knowledge of the most current technologies and recent scientific findings to their employers` daily operations.
Each year, the SRC brings its sponsored students together to review current research projects and network with executives from SRC member-companies. This year, the student conference will be held on Sept. 17-18 in Dallas, Texas.
SRC, based in Research Triangle Park, N.C., with an office in San Jose, Calif., is the largest continuous industry-driven university research program in the U.S. Currently, the SRC sponsors research projects at 67 universities in the U.S. and Canada. Since 1982, SRC has funded more than $452 million in long-term semiconductor research contracts on behalf of its member companies. (Web site: www.src.org.)
