FIU Offers Winter Classes on Miami`s South Beach
MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Nov 12, 2002--Florida International University`s College of Continuing and Professional Studies is offering students from around the country a chance to earn college credit while vacationing on South Beach.
The January ''intersession'' gives students the opportunity to explore South Beach and simultaneously experience intellectual growth. Classes, which are held Jan. 6-18, span four to six hours a day, five days a week, and are held at The Wolfsonian-FIU, located in the heart of South Beach, 1001 Washington Ave. The program is limited to 50 students, and accommodations are available at the South Beach Best Western Hotel.
Courses may also be taken on a not-for-credit basis, so that the local community, as well as visitors, may benefit from this unique opportunity.
''We offer students an enriching and valuable experience by setting standards of excellence in innovative curriculum design, teaching, professional development and cross-cultural understanding,'' said David Grossman, dean of the college.
Courses include:
-- ''The Architectural Landscape of Miami -- Visions and Constructs,'' which explores the architectural history of Miami;
-- ''Films of Woody Allen,'' which examines the humor, social, economic, political and cultural issues represented in society;
-- ''Special Topics in Architecture,'' which review the Art Deco and Miami Modern Architecture movements; and,
-- ''Creative Concepts,'' which concentrates on creative thinking and the development of multimedia campaigns.
