Complete and Only Season of the Emmy Award Winning, Critically Acclaimed Cutting Edge Series
BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Nov 10, 2003--On December 2, 2003, fans will have a second chance to see the Emmy Award winning The Ben Stiller Show when the entire 12 episode series (plus one bonus, unaired episode) will be released in a two-disc box set valued at $26.99 SRP by Warner Home Video. The ingeniously written and hilariously funny television series captured the Emmy Award for comedic writing and was the subject of wide critical acclaim but lasted only half of a season on the then-neophyte Fox Television Network.
Launched in 1992, the project grabbed a strong following and certainly had a special place in the heart of its creator. By releasing the series on DVD, Stiller fans will have the opportunity to see the early stages of this comedic genius. According to Stiller: ''I`ve been asking them for years to do this and when I saw the special boxed DVD set of Saved by the Bell, I knew we had a chance.''
The show was created by Stiller and Judd Apatow (The Cable Guy, Freaks and Geeks) and starred Janeane Garofalo (Mystery Men), Bob Odenkirk (Mr. Show) and Andy Dick (NewsRadio). Joyce Miller of the San Francisco Examiner was effusive in her praise, calling The Ben Stiller Show, ''the most spectacular, thoroughly original Fox series debut since The Simpsons.'' Ironically, after its cancellation, the show won the Emmy for Comedy Writing, beating out Saturday Night Live and two other sketch shows, In Living Color and The Edge. Proof positive that, despite bad time slots and bad judgment, someone out there had a sense of humor.
The Ben Stiller Show DVD contains hilarious special features including:
-- Commentaries by Ben Stiller, the entire cast and writers for the show on seven key episodes
-- A Brief History of The Ben Stiller Show including alternate versions of the pilot and two early parodies made for MTV
-- Five unaired sketches with optional commentary
-- Outtakes
-- An E! ''Behind The Scenes'' Special
-- An Easter Egg with ''Melrose Heights'' commentary by Ben Stiller and Bob Odenkirk.
