New System Removes Students` Anxieties Over Annual Tuition Increases
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Feb 28, 2003--New York Law School will adopt a flat tuition rate for its incoming class this fall.
Each summer, law students around the country face the uncertainty presented by annual raises to their tuition. At New York Law School, beginning with the fall 2003 entering class, students will know that their tuition will remain at the same level throughout their time in school.
''Students face greater financial pressure today than ever before,'' New York Law School Dean Richard A. Matasar said. ''Higher education contributes to this by creating uncertainties for students who are left to wonder: How much will tuition go up? Will I be able to afford higher tuition? Will my financial aid package be adjusted if tuition is raised? By giving students one price, flat for their entire time in school, we can help them with their financial planning and assure them that their financial aid package will retain its value.
At New York Law School, annual tuition for the incoming class this fall will represent a 12.5 percent increase for full-time students over the current tuition, rising from $28,400 to $31,960. For the incoming class in the School`s part-time, evening division, the annual tuition will present a 16 percent increase over current tuition.
Spread over a three-year period - the time a full-time student is enrolled - the increase is equal to two annual tuition increases of 6 percent, according to Fred DeJohn, Associate Dean for Finance & Administration. For entering students in the School`s part-time evening division, tuition will represent a 16 percent increase over current tuition, the equivalent of four annual tuition increases of 4 percent.
Over the past three years, annual tuition increases at New York Law School have averaged 7.45 percent.
