Essay Contest Challenges Students to Articulate How Network Technology Can Change Business; Winner Awarded Scholarship
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Feb 5, 2003--3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) today announced that, in conjunction with Network World, based in Southborough, MA, it is creating an essay writing contest and scholarship award for college and university students nationwide. 3Com and Network World are issuing an invitation to college students in the United States to compete in the writing contest on ''How Network Technology Can Change Business.'' Evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges, qualifying essays will compete for a $1,500 grand prize scholarship award. In addition, the top ten finalists will each receive a 3Com(R) OfficeConnect(R) Wireless Gateway and 3Com OfficeConnect 11Mbps Wireless LAN PC Card with XJACK(R) Antenna that enable wireless connectivity to the Internet and e-mail. Winning essays will be posted on Network World`s Web site www.nwfusion.com, where the writing contest entry form is now available.

Requirements
The entrant must be a full-time or part-time student actively enrolled in a U.S. college or university in an undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate program. The essay must be between 500 and 1,000 words. The winner of the $1,500 scholarship and the top ten finalists will be named in April 2003. Judging Criteria
Each essay will be judged on a point system in the following categories:
-- Creativity/Originality -- Comprehension -- Clarity of Expression -- Organization/Structure -- Writing Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling
The essay with the overall highest score will win the grand prize.
