Founded in 1971, the National Salute to Black Achievers in Industry recognizes the accomplishments of African-American executives who provide outstanding service to their organizations and communities. Among the 68 African-American executives who will be recognized this year for their superior work performance, career accomplishments, and contributions to their communities are four Citigroup employees: Andrea L. Mason, Vice President, Director of External Partnerships, Corporate Diversity; Darryl P. Hendricks, President, Citibank Illinois FSB; Mark W. Willis, Senior Vice President, Director of Training, Smith Barney; and Marcia E. Young, Director, GCC Portfolio and Infrastructure, Citigroup Global Corporate and Investment Bank.
''The Harlem YMCA believes that we can create strong communities by promoting academic excellence and providing resources to young African-Americans, '' said Elaine Edmonds, Executive Director of the Harlem YMCA. ''We are pleased that Citigroup shares this belief and have supported this cause by making significant contributions within the Harlem community.''
Since 1971, the Harlem YMCA has awarded more than 4,000 men and women for outstanding contributions to industry and community. In honoring these Black Achievers, the Harlem YMCA promotes giving back to youth by exposing the need for top managers and employees of leading corporations to become mentors and guides. Black Achievers who wanted to give back to the community began the Black Achievers Mentoring Program in 1988. To date, more than 300 youth have received the benefits of one-on-one mentoring. Since the Black Achievers Scholarship program was established, more than $250,000 has been raised by Citigroup and Fortune 500 corporations. Citigroup has supported the Black Achievers Program since its inception in 1971.
Cocktails begin at 5 PM to be followed by the dinner and award presentations.
