MEDIA ADVISORY--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Aug 27, 2004--Although colleges aren`t offering full-ride poker scholarships, at least not yet, the College Poker Championship offers the next best thing. ''We`re determined to find the best college Texas no-limit hold`em player in the world.'' said the event`s host, well-known poker player and best-selling poker author Lou Krieger. And with sponsorship funds from online poker giant Royal Vegas Poker, this year`s College Poker Championship is offering $40,000 to the winner. As an added feature in the Land Based Grand Final in Cancun, Mexico; charitable donations amounting to $10,000 will be made to any charity or organization designated by the finalists.

Although poker is quickly becoming the new college pastime of choice, the College Poker Championship is the first event to bring college poker players together from all over the world. But this isn`t a gamble. The event focuses on charitable giving and scholarships that are awarded during the tournament. And to prove it, entry into the tournament is entirely free, with no purchase ever required of participants.

''It`s about giving back to the community and students while at the same time enjoying a game that is fast becoming the next spectator sport,'' said Krieger. ''Poker is a game of skill and not of random chance. Its value is increasingly recognized by university professors around the world as a game that encourages strategic thinking and competitive analysis.

''Last year`s first annual College Poker Championship was an unparalleled success,'' said Krieger, ''with Grant Coombs, of Washington and Lee University, finishing in first place to win $15,000 in scholarship money for himself, along with a sizeable donation made in his name to Students for Life.''

The 2005 College Poker Championship runs for six months, with 25 ''Super Satellite'' qualifying rounds and $500 available in scholarship awards each week. Events will be played every Sunday at 4:00 EST, commencing Sunday August 29, 2004. The last Super Satellite is slated for Sunday, February 13, 2005, and the top 10 percent of players from each of the 25 Super Satellites qualify for the Satellite Event. The Satellite Event will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2005 and it offers $5,000 in scholarship awards.

The top 20 percent of the finishers in that round secure a place in the February 27 Online Final. Those placing tenth through eightieth will share in $5,500 in scholarship funds, while the first through ninth place finishers win a seat at The 2nd Annual College Poker Championship Land Based Grand Final, along with an all-expense paid trip for two to Cancun, Mexico where the CPC finals will be held. This trip also includes VIP tickets to an exotic spring break party hosted by collegepokerchampionship.com.

The Land Based Grand Final is set for Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 4:00 PM EST, at a top international spring break location. More than $84,000 in scholarship funds will be distributed, in addition to the charitable awards.

''This is a terrific event,'' said Krieger, ''as well as a great opportunity for students from around the world to meet one another online and compete for large cash scholarships. Not only that, when you combine all of this with a huge spring break party in an exotic location, it`s got something for everyone.''

Last year poker enthusiasts from Australia to America and Cornell to Cambridge played in the first College Poker Championships. With the growth of poker and a year`s experience in running this event under their belt, the folks at Royal Vegas Poker are confident that the 2005 College Poker Championship will be bigger and better in every way. The winner can truly claim the title of Best College Texas Hold`em No Limit Poker Player in the World -- and then pay for the rest of his or her education.
