PALO ALTO, Calif.--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Feb 1, 2005--University of Dreams (https://www.uofdreams.com), a summer internship and professional training program that places college students with industry-leading companies, has seen a 70% increase year-over-year in internship opportunities in their four markets New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago. This year`s increase builds on last year, when UOD saw its participation increase by nearly 50% over 2003.

''Each market is different, of course, but we are seeing a dramatic increase in companies internship needs. Industries that have hired during the past few years are looking to hire more, and companies in other industries are dipping their toes into the internship market for the first time in years,'' said Intern Program Manager Chris Duggan. Duggan coordinates internships for UOD in New York City.

Industries that have seen the largest spike in demand are finance, public relations, and entertainment. UOD estimates that its financial services partners - some of the largest and most prominent in the worldare looking to bring on about 50% more interns this year. The public relations industry, an area beleaguered by the dotcom fallout, has rebounded strongly: UOD has upwards of 55%. Finally, entertainment industries are looking to attract 60% more college students than last summer.

Company Founder and President, Eric Lochtefeld, placed these increases in perspective, noting that ''when we first started in 2000, we worked with a few dozen companies; now, we help dozens upon dozens more achieve their summer internship hiring objectives. When we speak to students at colleges across the country, they are frequently surprised to learn the extent of the internships available to them this summer. We are really excited to be in a position to help students propel their careers.''

Lochtefeld was quick to note that finance, PR, and entertainment are not the only industries in which they have seen expanding internship availability. ''We have a host of publishing positions, advertising opportunities, and even positions as wide ranging as law and consumer products. This is a great year for college students of every major to gain valuable professional experience.''
