MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Feb 11, 2005--Collegiate bridge teams: Test your skills by qualifying to play in the finals of the North American College Bridge Team Championships in Atlanta in July 2005 - all expenses paid.

Sponsored by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), the qualifying rounds will take place online at bridgebase.com beginning at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Saturday, Feb. 19.

Teams from colleges or universities (more than one team per school is welcome) may register for the zonal qualifying stage by contacting [email protected] by Tuesday, Feb. 15. Teams must consist of four players born in 1979 or later. In addition, team members must attend the same school and be enrolled in at least seven hours of credit. The league will pay membership in the ACBL for those participants who are not members at the time of the competition.

Qualifying teams from geographic zones in the United States and Canada then will square off in Atlanta on July 22 and 23 at the summer 2005 North American Bridge Championships, one of three major tournaments sponsored annually by the league. The summer tournament includes a host of other events for members under the age of 26.

Each qualifying team member will receive airfare to Atlanta and hotel expenses. Members of the championship team each will receive a $500 scholarship. Should the number of 2005 entries double that of the 2004 contest, the scholarships will double to $1,000 per champion, so register today!

Teams qualifying last year were from UCLA, Stanford, Ohio Wesleyan, Carnegie Mellon, Dartmouth and MIT, with MIT emerging as the overall winner.

With 170,000 members, the ACBL is the worlds largest bridge organization and the largest official sanctioning body for competitive bridge in North America. Its mission is to promote the fun and challenge of the game and support educational and playing opportunities for enthusiasts. Each year more than 2.5 million tables of bridge are played under ACBL auspices.
