WASHINGTON--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Feb 14, 2005--The Washington Internship Program is hard at work on outreach efforts, finding and placing applicants for its summer and fall 2005 program. Over the next four months, representatives of the organization are scouring the country looking for bright, talented, undergraduate and graduate students as well as graduates seeking a unique experience as an intern in Washington, D.C. Interns are placed in government and the private sector in law, business, journalism, medicine, economics and finance, media and broadcasting, public relations, human rights, international relations, and the sciences or arts, among other fields.
Unlike looking for an internship on your own without knowing whether (or if) you`ll find a good placement, the Washington Internship Program provides contacts and the advantage of twenty years of experience matching interns with the right positions. WIP staff members meet and speak with supervisors on the job and lobby on behalf of each participant. WIP guarantees participants will be placed in internships of their choosing because students and graduates only select internships they want, and each intern gets a written contract to insure a meaningful, substantive job. Professional editors help with resumes, cover letters, and writing samples so all materials submitted by prospective interns are of the highest quality. Additional writing assistance throughout the internship insures that everything interns write on the job will be of publishable quality.
The Washington Internship Program also secures housing, offers a job-bank of part-time paid employment for anyone who needs to make extra money, and interns enjoy guest speakers, field trips, weekend retreats, museum visits, athletic events, and other activities connected with a course on ''Washington and Work'' offered one evening a week at Georgetown University. Small classes with program-affiliated authors, syndicated columnists, newspaper reporters, professors, and former White House speechwriters teach you how to express yourself in the workplace. Credit for the course can be transferred to most universities. WIP interns come from seventy-six foreign countries and 649 different colleges.
Written evaluations at the end of the internship along with reports and transcripts help pave the way for subsequent jobs, higher education, or other opportunities.
