LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Mar 24, 2005--This Saturday, Fox Soccer Channel kicks off its exclusive coverage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers from Europe with a live doubleheader. The first of the two matches will feature Bulgaria and Sweden live at 10:30 a.m. ET. Bulgaria heads into Saturday`s home qualifier with a major disadvantage. Head coach Hristo Stoichov will be without several key players who are sidelined due to injury; furthermore, Bulgarian captain Stilian Petrov is currently serving a
one-game suspension and will be forced to watch his team from the sidelines when they take on the Swedes, ranked 13th in the world according to FIFA. Romania and Holland will then battle in Saturday`s second game, live on Fox Soccer Channel at 1:00 p.m. ET. Sixth-ranked Holland will rely on Edwin van der Saar and Roy Makaay to help erase the memory of 2002, when the Dutch failed to reach the World Cup Finals.

The action will continue next week with four more matches. On Tuesday, March 29, England will face Northern Ireland at 8:00 p.m. ET in a delayed telecast of a game from the previous weekend, followed by a full day of World Cup Qualifying action on Wednesday, March 30. Live at 1:30 p.m. ET, Sven-Goran Eriksson and his English Three Lions, who are currently ranked eighth in the world, will take the pitch against an overmatched team from Azerbaijan. Fifth-ranked Spain will then face Serbia and Montenegro at 4:00 p.m. ET, and Fox Soccer Channel will cap off its World Cup qualifying telecasts for the day with the clash between Israel and France, who are ranked 51st and second in the world, respectively.
