Leading provider of alternative dispute resolution solutions partners with the American Bar Association to promote excellence in arbitration advocacy

CHICAGO & MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Apr 15, 2005--The American Bar Association Law Student Division and the National Arbitration Forum announced today that they have partnered together to sponsor the Arbitration Competition for law students. William Mitchell College of Law will host the inaugural Arbitration Competition National Finals in St. Paul, Minn., on Nov. 18 - 20.

Peggy Pissarreck, assistant director, ABA Law Student Division, commented, ''This exciting new competition is designed to provide law students with arbitration education and training to promote excellence in arbitration advocacy. Students will prepare and present an arbitration case to gain experience in professional, competent, and ethical arbitration advocacy.'' Roger Haydock, director of education for the National Arbitration Forum and law professor for the William Mitchell College of Law, added, ''As alternative dispute resolution solutions, such as arbitration and mediation, continue to gain popularity as alternatives to going to court, it is imperative that we
equip today`s law students with the knowledge and skills they will need to identify and employ out-of-court solutions to benefit their clients. This competition will provide a solid foundation toward that goal.''

Rules and Eligibility

Each American Bar Association-approved law school is eligible to enter one team in the competition. A full- or part-time faculty member or a lawyer approved by the law school must agree to serve as the Arbitration Competition Coach. Registration opens on June 1. Details can be found at the ABA Law Student Division Web site at https://www.abanet.org/lsd/competitions/ . Awards will be provided to all participating teams, and the winning team will receive a monetary award.

For more information, please contact the ABA Law Student Division staff at 312.988.5622 or Professor Roger Haydock at 651.604.6710.
