NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Nov. 16, 2000--New York Life Insurance Company announced today that Brock Norris, a senior at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, is the winner of the company`s College Internship Summer Contest for the South Central Zone. The winner was selected based on the highest number of submitted life insurance applications for the period between June 1 and August 31, 2000.

New York Life`s Internship Program attracted some 300 students from across the country this year. Interns obtain the skills they need to become successful agents through regular one-on-one contact with agent mentors, the active involvement of NYL training managers and careful supervision from NYL management. During the program, students are able to obtain their agent license and begin working with clients.

''We at New York Life are pleased to be training these extraordinary young people to learn what it takes to be a life insurance agent,'' said Jane Conti, assistant vice president in charge of the internship program. ''This professional training opportunity offers the unique benefits of hands on experience with clients and exposure to our products, providing the tools needed for a successful future.''

''New York Life`s internship program has taught me so much about being an insurance agent in such a short period of time,'' said Brock Norris. ''Helping clients have access to high quality products has given me priceless professional experience in a real-world environment. My New York Life manager, Brian Wilbourne, helped me perform to my highest potential by coaching me throughout the program.''

A celebratory luncheon and award presentation will be held today at The Grill in Oxford at 12 p.m. If you are interested in attending this event, please contact Kristi Blass at (212) 576-3953.
