Leading Research Institution Includes e-Procurement as Core Component of Campus-Wide e-Business Strategy

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Feb 4, 2002--Indiana University has signed an agreement with HigherMarkets, Inc., the leading provider of procurement solutions for higher education, to acquire a comprehensive set of HigherMarkets` e-procurement software products and services.

Indiana University, which Time Magazine rated as ''College of the Year among Research Institutions'' in 2001, has more than 90,000 students (graduate and undergraduate).

HigherMarkets will provide the eight-campus Indiana University system with a procurement solution designed to provide better service to campus end-users, create strategic buyer and supplier relationships, and streamline and reduce the cost of internal purchasing processes.

Indiana University selected HigherMarkets after closely evaluating several major e-procurement alternatives over the past year.

''We selected HigherMarkets because of its experience in the higher education market and its unique approach to solving the critical business issues institutions like IU are facing,'' says Guy DeStefano, Director of Purchasing at Indiana University. ''We are also impressed by the team at HigherMarkets, who show a deep understanding of procurement issues and a proven ability to lead a successful e-procurement project.''

HigherMarkets will provide its software solutions in a hosted environment, which means that Indiana University will not need to license software or purchase any hardware, and HigherMarkets will manage all upgrades and product enhancements. The project will focus on the enablement of Indiana University`s key strategic and community vendors onto the HigherMarkets platform, establishing a comprehensive purchase document delivery system and integrating the solution with existing systems.

''We are pleased that education leader Indiana University selected HigherMarkets and is joining us in our mission to build an advanced infrastructure for higher education procurement,'' says Paul Salsgiver, President and CEO of HigherMarkets. ''Institutions like Indiana University recognize that procurement solutions are a key component of a campus e-business strategy because of the potential to achieve substantial savings in a short time frame.''
