DERBY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Jun 4, 2002--New Era Cap Company and the Communications Workers of America are pleased to announce they have reached a tentative four-year contract agreement which provides for increases in wages and health insurance contributions, while providing New Era flexibility to meet changing production needs.
The agreement, which is being recommended to New Era`s 330 workers in its Derby, New York facility by the CWA, immediately puts an end to an 11-month long strike by the CWA.
''New Era is pleased that we have reached an agreement that meets the needs of the company and our workers,'' said New Era President Chris Koch. ''This agreement shows New Era is committed to Western New York, its employees and the Derby community.''
''This contract represents the culmination of a substantial effort of nearly two years by our members and their supporters to reach agreement on a contract that meets our needs with respect to health and safety issues and wages,'' said Jane Howald, CWA Local 14177 President.
The tentative agreement covers some 330 New Era employees in its Derby facility. New Era also has production facilities in Buffalo and in Alabama.
New Era has been producing the highest quality headwear for over 82 years, and is the exclusive supplier of Major League Baseball`s on-field caps.
Unlike the vast majority of other apparel manufacturers, New Era makes the vast majority of its product in the U.S. and is the last American company capable of supplying domestically produced caps to major professional and college sports teams.
CWA represents over 700,000 workers in Telecommunications, Health Care, Public Sector, Cable and Higher Education.
