EasyTopics.com: Student Driven Search Engine Enables Sharing of Essay Topics and Resources

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--April 12, 2006--EasyTopics.com is a database of research ideas and bibliographical sources developed and used by thousands of students nationwide.

Students search the EasyTopics database for writing ideas. Within seconds, EasyTopics returns numerous essay ideas containing their query. All of these topics were submitted by real students writing real papers. These topics range from European History, Classic Psychology, Modern International Relations to Current Events. Additionally, topics are organized into middle school, high school, and college levels.

EasyTopics, however, goes beyond merely finding essay ideas. Along with contributing an essay topic, each student submits potential research sources to use with the topic. That way, other students can utilize already proven useful information to foster new ideas or support a related paper.

Neal Taparia, a Northwestern senior, and Darshan Somashekar, a recent Brown alum, created EasyTopics, which is arguably the first essay topic search engine. Somashekar said, "We envisioned creating a social community with an educational twist. Students share essay topics, creating the ability to brainstorm new ideas online."

How do students submit their essay topics to EasyTopics? Somashekar and Taparia also operate EasyBib.com, the most popular bibliography composition service on the Internet. Taparia explains that, "When students create their bibliography on EasyBib, we ask information regarding their paper topic. We then personally validate each topic we think is useful. The amount of essay ideas accumulating grows as people continue to come to EasyBib."

When summarizing EasyTopics, Somashekar says, "We hope that our topics will stimulate new ideas and out of the box thinking. Why don't we leverage the time people have already put into researching, and allow others to probe further and develop new ideas? EasyTopics allows students to spend less time researching and more time writing."

Somashekar and Taparia are Chicago natives. The two founded ImagineEasy Solutions LLC in 2003, with a growing portfolio of products, now including EasyTopics and EasyBib. Their services reach millions of students nationwide. ImagineEasy Solutions is dedicated to redefining the ways schools teach and students learn.
