FORT WORTH, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--May 31, 2006--First Command Financial Planning, Inc. has teamed up with Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, to establish the company's first student intern program.

The first intern has already been recruited for this year's nine-week summer program, which will offer paid work experience in the company's Fort Worth headquarters and local financial planning offices in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

"This program is designed to allow students interested in a career in financial planning an opportunity to experience the day-to-day life of a First Command financial advisor," says Kodak Horton, First Command's vice president and director of Performance Development and Training and proponent of the financial planning intern program. "While we hope that some of the interns may come back to work for First Command as an advisor in the field, all will gain valuable insight into the workings of the financial planning industry."

A second component of the program provides guidance and financial incentives for First Command's field leaders to establish paid internships -- ranging in length from nine weeks to one year -- in their local markets, which include more than 200 offices in the U.S., Europe and the Pacific Rim.

Deena Katz, the Texas Tech's intern program director, is enthusiastic about the First Command program.

"We're delighted to see First Command develop a robust internship program in financial planning," she says. "Students will be exposed to various aspects of planning that can only add to their future professional skills."

First Command Financial Planning develops and delivers comprehensive financial plans to assist American families in their efforts to build wealth, reduce debt and pursue their lifetime financial goals and reams. Through a combination of independent advice and personalized plans that emphasize consistent investment, carefully selected insurance and adequate savings, First Command financial advisors have established lasting relationships with hundreds of thousands of client families since 1958.
