PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Aug. 31, 2006--In its 2007 rankings, U.S.News & World Report ranked the undergraduate Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) program of Temple University's Fox School of Business and Management the fifth-best program in the nation, and the school's International Business (IB) program 10-best out of more than 400 programs in the nation.
The Fox School undergraduate program was also ranked in the top 75 among all business schools in the nation. The Fox School and Penn's Wharton School are the only Philadelphia-area schools to be ranked as top-100 business schools for the past five consecutive years.
"These rankings are a testimony to The Fox School's reputation, the impressive statistics of its incoming freshman class, the growth of our honors program and our excellent placement services," said M. Moshe Porat, Fox School dean.
The Risk Management and Insurance program has achieved top-10 rankings three times in the past four years, and this is the fourth year in a row that U.S.News & World Report ranked Fox's International Business program in the top 20.
Risk Management and Insurance
Fox's Risk Management and Insurance program is the second-largest such program worldwide, as recognized in 2005 by Business Insurance magazine. The program is known for the diverse expertise, research interests and productivity of its faculty; for its prestigious journals; for its actuarial science program, certified by the Society of Actuaries; and for the review seminars that Fox's Actuarial Institute provides.
The RMI program has an unusually high placement rate, placing most of its students in internships and more than 95 percent in full-time positions upon graduation. In summer 2006, 108 Fox students in risk management and actuarial science completed internships throughout the United States.
The international parent organization of Fox's risk management and insurance student professional organization, Gamma Iota Sigma, has recognized the Fox chapter as the best in the nation 11 times in the past 13 years. Since 1980, on a yearly basis, the department continues to have the largest number of scholarship winners in the United States for the Spencer Educational Foundation scholarship, given by the Risk and Insurance Management Society.
"I'm happy to see our program, the only program to have concentrations in employee benefits management and healthcare risk management in addition to traditional risk management and insurance, and actuarial science, receive this well-deserved ranking," said department chair Rob Drennan.
The Fox School's Risk Management and Insurance department also publishes three leading risk management journals: Risk Management and Insurance Review, edited by Professor Mary Weiss; the Journal of Risk Finance, edited by Professor Michael Powers and Benefits Quarterly, edited by Associate Professor Jack VanDerhei.
International Business
Fox's International Business program focuses on what it takes for its graduates to succeed in the global marketplace. One of the program's strengths is its 14-credit language requirement. All students must become proficient in a second language.
"Our globally competent students are aware of the dynamics of a globalized economy, the interactions between international politics and international business, and the role played by U.S. business firms," said Arvind Phatak, executive director of Temple's Institute for Global Management Studies (IGMS) and Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER).
Fox's international business program is supported by the high quality of its faculty, its high-profile CIBER -- one of only 31 such centers in the U.S. -- and the prestigious journal it produces, the Journal of International Management, edited by renowned General and Strategic Management Professor Masaaki "Mike" Kotabe.
Other program highlights include an international business capstone course that enables students to apply IB tools and methods to solve real business cases, and an ongoing relationship with Dubai Women's College in which Fox School students collaborate with students in Dubai.
The Fox School of Business and Management, at Temple University, is the largest, most comprehensive business school in the Greater Philadelphia region and among the largest in the world, with more than 5,700 students, 150 full-time faculty and 45,000 alumni. Recently, Financial Times ranked The Fox School's MBA program in the Top 10 in the U.S. in all international categories, and overall as one of the top 50 MBA programs in the nation and top 75 in the world. Accredited by AACSB International (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), The Fox School's programs also are ranked internationally and nationally by leading business publications, including U.S.News & World Report and Entrepreneur magazine.
