Third Largest Auto Insurance Group in the U.S. Recognized by BusinessWeek in Its First-Ever Ranking of Employers That Offer New College Graduates the Best Opportunities to Succeed

MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Sept. 19, 2006--The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies has been named to BusinessWeek's inaugural list of the best places for new college graduates to begin their careers.

"Our goal is an environment where our people enjoy working hard, are motivated to do their best and where they can grow constantly. Making BusinessWeek's ranking helps to signal to new graduates that we want the nation's best and brightest," said Matt Thornton, national recruiting director, Progressive.

Deciding where to start a career after college can be a tough and soul-searching process for many new graduates. To make the decision easier, BusinessWeek put together its list of the top 55 employers that outshine the rest when it comes to offering new graduates the most opportunities to succeed.

To compile the list, BusinessWeek incorporated information from three different sources. First, career services directors at leading universities across the U.S. were asked to identify the top five employers for entry-level workers in a dozen industries; second, each employer was asked to respond to an extensive survey on hiring, pay, benefits, training programs, advancement opportunities and other topics; and third, market research firm Universum Communications supplied data from its survey of more than 37,000 U.S. undergraduates about the finalists at the top of their list of the most desirable employers. Points were awarded for responses to each survey question and information from all three sources was combined to calculate the final ranking.

In the end, 55 employers made the final list with Progressive ranked No. 37 among such employers as Walt Disney, Google, NASA and General Electric.
