The Recording Academy(R)'s Unique Music Program Launches in 12 Chapter Cities Nationwide
SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Oct. 10, 2006--A certain pop star may be bringing "SexyBack" to the world, but the folks who put on The GRAMMY Awards aim to bring "MusicBack" to college campuses across the country. Thanks to The Recording Academy(R), going back to school never sounded so good with the official launch of GRAMMY(R) University (GRAMMY U) Network. From talking to artists in an intimate setting and getting a behind-the-scenes look at touring and performing live to networking events and performance and career opportunities, this unique new network delivers unparalleled access to people and programs within the music industry. After all, it is who you know in addition to what you know that helps. And, as they say in college, "experience is everything."
"Whether you are an aspiring performer, songwriter or producer, or interested in the business side of the industry, The Recording Academy has a deep commitment to helping students prepare for a career in music and that is why we created GRAMMY University Network," said Robert Accatino, Director, Membership & Marketing, The Recording Academy. "The experience enhances the in-classroom experience with out-of-classroom opportunities. By joining GRAMMY U, students gain access to today's leading recording artists, producers, engineers, songwriters and label executives -- a wealth of talented individuals who want to share their experiences with tomorrow's recording industry professionals."
So what's the learning lesson? If you are interested at all in a career in the music industry, you need to join GRAMMY U. The best part? No need for No. 2 pencils and blue books with this University. Get the 411 on GRAMMY U right here:
LESSON 1: GET PLUGGED IN
With more than 700 student members nationwide and a burgeoning MySpace page (www.myspace.com/grammyu), GRAMMY U is primed to be a hit. By joining GRAMMY U, you can get hooked up with a variety of events that only The Recording Academy, the largest music membership organization, can provide, including: Up Close and Personal, where GRAMMY U students are able to talk to a band in a small, intimate setting; In The Mix networking, which focuses on bringing students together to meet and share ideas; and GRAMMY Soundchecks, which provides students with a "behind the scenes" look at touring and performing live. Other opportunities include career workshops, networking and performance opportunities, benefits and discounts, feedback from industry professionals, internship and employment opportunities, and much more.
LESSON 2: ENROLL ON A BUDGET
Fact: GRAMMY U already successfully launched in Los Angeles and Nashville. GRAMMY U will be housed at various colleges within all 12 Recording Academy Chapter cities; however, the program and events will be offered to any student member throughout the regions. region; Los Angeles, San Francisco, Pacific Northwest and Texas in the Western region; and New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. in the Eastern region.

"I am grateful for all of the events that have been open for us to gain hands-on experience in just one semester. This is one of the only organizations that I have been a part of that takes students' advice when planning exclusive events for its members. I hope others will see the value and core benefits that becoming a GRAMMY U member instantly provides you with."
-- Erica Scherle, Junior, Belmont University
"GRAMMY U has provided me with the best music-related experiences I've had all year! From meeting artists, bands and other students to doing label tours and songwriter reviews, it has all been exciting and a lot of fun. It is a must-join for any student considering a job in the music industry."
-- Zac Koffler, Senior, Belmont University
"I am so excited to be a part of GRAMMY U because it's the first organization for students which has the potential to create a real presence in the music industry to effectively connect us with working professionals. I have never been a part of any other organization that promises so much opportunity and has the experience and reputation to back it up!"
-- Caitlin McKeighen, Senior, Middle Tennessee State University
"An excellent and inexpensive way for students to build relationships, network and meet entertainment industry professionals ... It really gives us an insider's view and prepares us to be the future of not just the music business, but the entertainment industry as well."
