Video Contest Endorsed By Al Gore Kicks off the New Year with Simple, Stylish Solutions to Global Warming

BROOKLYN, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Jan. 3, 2007--One Degree, www.weather.com/onedegree, a broadband site dedicated to climate change developed by The Weather Channel Interactive (TWCI), Seventh Generation (https://www.inspiredprotagonist.com), the leading eco-friendly home products company, and TreeHugger.com (https://www.treehugger.com), the largest environmental website, are ringing in the new year by offering the first three CONVENIENT TRUTHS entrants of 2007, the chance for an exclusive phone call with contest judge, Daryl Hannah, Actress and Environmental Advocate! CONVENIENT TRUTHS is a user-created video contest (https://www.truths.treehugger.com) whose mission is to garner simple yet effective responses to reducing our carbon emissions.

The CONVENIENT TRUTHS contest is endorsed by former Vice President Al Gore, who "applauds TreeHugger's efforts" calling the contest "a great way to spread the word and bring the issue into our daily lives."

Entrants have until February 28th 2007 to create and submit 1-2 minute videos on everyday solutions to climate change to the contest site www.truths.treehugger.com. Videos will be selected based on how inspiring, pragmatic and compelling they are. "Both big and small solutions have their own benefits," said Graham Hill, Founder of TreeHugger.com. "Whether a video submission is about someone carrying home their groceries in their own cloth bag or about switching an office building over to solar-powered heating, we're looking forward to seeing a great variety of each."

Winning entries will be determined by a combination of web viewers and expert judges including Laurie David, Founder of stopglobalwarming.org; Arianna Huffington, Co-Founder and Editor of The Huffington Post and Dr. Heidi Cullen, Climate Expert for The
Weather Channel.

Winning videos will be broadcast on various outlets including One Degree (www.weather.com/onedegree). The Top 10 videos will be packaged on a DVD and distributed by Ironweed Films.

Prizes valued close to $30,000 are designed to reduce winners' carbon emissions in high-impact areas of travel, transportation, and home. They include: an all-expense paid trip for two to the Alaskan wilderness from Alaska Wildland Adventures (https://www.alaskawildland.com), travel gear from Patagonia (https://www.patagonia.com) , a green home makeover from Ecohome Improvement (https://www.ecohomeimprovement.com), Seventh Generation (https://www.seventhgeneration.com) home products, E-V Sunny Bicycles (https://www.therapyproducts.com) from Thera-P-Cushion, Voltaic solar backpacks (https://www.voltaicsystems.com), a Zipcar (https://www.zipcar.com) membership, and carbon offsets (https://www.driveneutral.org).

Recognizing that global warming is a global problem, EPIC Vancouver (www.epicvancouver.com) is sponsoring the contest's new "EPIC International Prize." Open to citizens world-wide, popular designer and contest judge, John Fluevog, will select the one video that best addresses conscious consumerism in relation to global warming. Winner will receive $5,000 CAD for a sustainable shopping spree, a round trip ticket to Vancouver to attend EPIC's Sustainable Living Expo (www.epicvancouver.com), a Dutch citybike from Jorg&Orlif (www.jorgandolif.com), and 100% biodegradable shoes from John Fluevog (www.fluevog.com).

CONVENIENT TRUTHS is a carbon-neutral contest, and all emissions generated will be offset by the non-profit organization DriveNeutral. For more information, visit www.truths.treehugger.com.
