PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--July 6, 2007--The rSmart Group, the leading full-service provider of open source solutions for education, today announced that Strathmore University, one of Kenya's leading universities, has implemented the first instance of the Kuali Financial System (KFS). Strathmore University (SU) is running its new fiscal year accounting with KFS. SU saw KFS as a way to dramatically reduce the cost of enterprise software and saw the functionality of Kuali to be superior to the commercially available solutions.
"This is indeed a landmark day for community source," said John Walsh, Project Director of the Kuali Foundation, "This is a huge accomplishment for Strathmore University, the rSmart team, and the Kuali community."
"With Strathmore University going live with the Kuali Financial system effective this fiscal year, it is indeed a triumph for the Kuali Community," said John Robinson, Chairman of The rSmart Group, "This is the culmination of significant efforts by some 11 colleges and universities (Indiana University, Cornell University, Michigan State University, University of Arizona, University of Hawaii, San Joaquin Delta Community College, University of California at Irvine, Davis, Santa Barbara, and the University of Southern California), NACUBO and The rSmart Group. This initial implementation is an early and important confirmation that the Kuali Financial System is capable of being installed with relative ease because it uniquely meets the requirements of higher education institutions. This is a great success and forbearer for many other institutions that will benefit from the efforts of the Kuali Community."
The Kuali Financial System, an application built by education, for education, is the first open source financial application to go live in the education community. The KFS solution specifically addresses the needs of a higher education institution and will lead SU into a future Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) suite composed of open source software modules being developed by the Kuali community. With a small, but committed team working in concert with the rSmart team, the Strathmore implementation was completed on schedule, in short amount of time, on a modest budget, with a minimum amount of direct contact, and most importantly, with a high degree of satisfaction from the Strathmore University team.
"It is indeed a great occasion for us here at Strathmore University," said Dr. John Odhiambo, CEO and Vice Chancellor of Strathmore University, "On behalf of the University Management Board, (we) express our gratitude for the support The rSmart Group team accorded to our functional and technical team. We are proud to be in such good company of universities and our SRCC team is making fruitful efforts to bring other Kenyan institutions on board."
