Salvatore has previously written The Halfling`s Gem, Sojourn and The Legacy, which also achieved New York Times best-seller status upon publication; his first published novel was The Crystal Shard in 1988. Since that time, Wizards of the Coast has published 19 of Savatore’s fantasy-adventure novels, of which Sea of Swords is the 12th to hit a national best-seller list. More than three million R.A. Salvatore books have been sold to date.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re 15-years-old or 115,” said Paul Goat Allen of Explorations, Barnes and Noble’s science fiction and fantasy newsletter, “Salvatore’s Drizzt Do’Urden novels are guaranteed to be entertaining. Great characters, great story lines and great locations—this is adventure fantasy at its very best.”
Sea of Swords is the first novel since The Silent Blade to feature Drizzt Do’Urden, the most popular character in the Forgotten Realms setting and Salvatore’s signature character. In this fantasy narrative, Wulfgar, a dejected, once-mighty barbarian, embarks on a journey to retrieve his stolen magic hammer. Wulfgar’s good friend Drizzt, the dark elf, becomes concerned for Wulfgar`s safety when an image of the magic hammer is found on the back of a transient outlaw. As both men search for the magic hammer, their paths finally cross and they discover that the hammer is in the hands of a vile pirate, Sheila Kree, who is prepared to fight to the death to retain possession.
