Series of Film Competitions Provides Filmmakers the Opportunity to Win a $1,000,000 Feature Film Deal at Universal Pictures
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Nov 19, 2002--The 2003 Chrysler Million Dollar Film Festival (Chrysler MDFF) recently announced this year`s Call for Entry allowing up-and-coming filmmakers to submit their short films for the opportunity to win a $1,000,000 feature film production deal courtesy of the Chrysler brand, Hypnotic and Universal Pictures. The participants in the year-long filmmaking competition will gain the opportunity to have their filmmaking talent critiqued by such cinema veterans as Doug Liman, director of the $100 million blockbuster hit, The Bourne Identity, as well as leading executives and filmmakers from the entertainment community.
The 2003 Chrysler Million Dollar Film Festival is now accepting qualified short film submissions at www.chrysler.com through December 14, 2002. From these submissions, twenty-five (25) quarterfinalist filmmakers will be selected to travel to Park City, UT in January to showcase their qualifying films, participate in a branded entertainment workshop and kick-off the development of a Chrysler-branded short film script.
From this phase, ten (10) filmmakers will be selected to travel to New York City in May, where they will each have ten (10) days to cast, shoot, edit and premiere a five-minute Chrysler-branded short film featuring either the new Chrysler Crossfire or Pacifica. The final round of the filmmaking competition requires five finalists to work from offices on the Universal Studios lot in Los Angeles and develop a $1,000,000 feature film package in partnership with an industry mentor. This package will include the production of a movie scene, poster and other promotional materials relating to their project. The feature film competition concludes at the same time as the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2003, where the finalists will pitch their respective projects and the winner will be announced.
''We`re enthusiastic about working with these filmmakers, Chrysler and Universal Pictures to create outstanding content. It is very gratifying to gain exposure for and guide the next generation of film directors,'' said Doug Liman, film director and Hypnotic Co-Founder. ''Mentoring filmmakers is a key objective for Hypnotic and this program allows us to do this in a challenging and rewarding manner.''
In September 2003, filmmaker Jeff Wadlow was announced as the 2002 Chrysler Million Dollar Film Festival winner. ''This is truly a dream come true. I`m so grateful to Chrysler, Hypnotic and Universal Studios for giving me the chance of a lifetime.'' Wadlow, a recent graduate from the USC School of Cinema- elevision submitted his senior thesis film, The Tower of Babble, the evening before the deadline on a last minute whim. Assembling together a stellar cast featuring Estella Warren and Topher Grace for his presentation Living the Lie, the film is currently in pre-production as Wadlow re-writes his final shooting script under the supervision of producers Hypnotic and Universal Pictures.
