BURLINGTON, Vt--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Dec 11, 2002--Trends in snowboarding come and go neon jackets, baseless bindings, leashes and Sorel boots to name a few. One thing has not changed over the years - the U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships is still the premier event of the season, drawing the worlds best pros and up-and-coming riders for more than 20 years.
In 2003, The U.S. Open will be held at its traditional venue, Stratton Mountain, Vermont from March 11-16. More than 30,000 spectators, fans and riders will migrate to Stratton in March to see the best snowboarders go head to head for a piece of U.S. Open glory and the event`s $200,000 cash purse. For the first time, the U.S. Open will hold a Jib Jam in addition to the Superpipe, Slopestyle and Junior Jam Halfpipe events.
Created by snowboarders and for snowboarders, the U.S. Open is a favorite contest among the world`s top riders because of the energy of the crowds, the nature of the events and the overall feel of the contest. ''The U.S. Open is my favorite event it`s at my home mountain and it`s the event I grew up watching,'' says Olympic Gold Medalist and Burton Global Team rider Ross Powers.
Top riders like Shaun White, Hana Beaman, Jussi Oksanen, Travis Rice, Kelly Clark and Ross Powers plan to attend the event and give fans the chance to witness riding at its best. Live music, pro rider autograph sessions, after parties and the usual U.S. Open mayhem will also be in full effect at this year`s event.
Thanks to sponsors like Burton Snowboards, Stratton Mountain, Right Guard Xtreme Sport, SoBe Beverages, FHM and GORE-TEX the U.S. Open will be bigger and better than ever in 2003.
