LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Aug 16, 2004--Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) along with The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) awarded 10 high school seniors a total of $45,000 in scholarships as part of the Nissan-UNCF ''SHIFT_'' knowledge scholarship program during UNCF`s
''Black College Gathering'' event held on this month at Ladera Park in Los Angeles.

The scholarship program was created to recognize student academic achievement, community involvement and leadership, and to honor the rich legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The program provided scholarships to select Los Angeles-based high school seniors attending HBCUs in fall of 2004.

''This program supports Nissan`s commitment to investing in youth, education, and diversity,'' said Tiarzha Taylor, manager, corporate relations, NNA. ''We are honored to support the dreams and aspirations of these incredible students.''

''UNCF is proud to align with Nissan in raising awareness of HBCUs to Southern Californians,'' said Renita Tyson, director of development, UNCF. ''These top-notch students will be a tremendous asset at the respective HBCU campuses.''

Scholarships were awarded as follows:

-- $10,000 scholarship to Imani McNeal from Dorsey High School, who will be attending Hampton University

-- $7,500 scholarship to Anthony Parr from Dorsey High School, who will be attending Morehouse College

-- $5,000 scholarships to:

-- Donovan Cosby from Foshay Learning Center, who will be attending Morehouse College

-- Bridgette Robinson from Washington Preparatory High School, who will be attending Howard University

-- Eric Greer from Southwest Middle College High School, who will be attending Alcorn State University

-- $2,500 scholarships to:

-- Michelle Shaw from Southwest Middle College High School, who will be attending Spelman College

-- Daniel Tovar from Crenshaw High School, who will be attending Tuskegee University

-- Alicia Wiley-Yancey from Washington Preparatory High School, who will be attending Tuskegee University

-- Na Nisa Batiste from Crenshaw High School, who will be attending Clark-Atlanta University

-- Stanley Simmons from Crenshaw High School, who will be attending Florida A&M; University

The scholarship awards were part of a larger $75,000 donation Nissan made to UNCF earlier this year.

Nissan`s support of UNCF is part of Nissan`s global commitment to ''Enriching People`s Lives'' through charitable contributions, in-kind donations and other philanthropic investments.
