KEYSTONE, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--May 17, 2005--Xythos Software, the leading developer of secure content collaboration software for the academic market, today announced that ten additional colleges and universities have licensed its applications for their faculty, researchers, students, and administrators. Included among the new schools are the Universite de Montreal, Pomona College, Queen`s University, Lewis & Clark College, Salve Regina University, Kennesaw State University, and George Fox University. With the addition of these new educational institutions, Xythos now has licensed almost one million academic users.

While Xythos systems continue to help faculty and students safely access and share class-related materials and personal web content, a growing number of institutions have also turned to Xythos to help them better manage and protect their institutional content. Administrative procedures and research projects are two common areas where academic institutions are seeking solutions to improve process efficiency and accountability in response to increased budget pressures and growing compliance requirements. ''Our academic customers recognize that they must leverage collaborative web technologies in order to remain competitive and combat increasing tuition costs,'' observed Ed Miller, CEO of Xythos. ''Our newly-announced Xythos Digital Locker and Enterprise Document Management Suites are designed to help these institutions offer academic and administrative content management services more efficiently and economically than traditional methods,'' he added.

While the company`s new Xythos Digital Locker Suite includes enhanced system security features and improved methods to discover and share content, its new Enterprise Document Management Suite is likely to have even greater appeal within the ''business side'' of academic institutions. Xythos has added integrated document classification and retention features, as well as basic workflow, to help automate a variety of administrative document processing functions -- including admissions and financial aid forms processing. The Enterprise Document Management Suite also includes Xythos Scan Client software which helps automate the scanning of paper documents and forms into the Xythos system, further reducing the cost and time associated with these types of administrative procedures.

Automating document processing and securing institutional content with a single web-based system can also provide significant benefits to academic institutions seeking cost-effective methods to better manage their enterprise content. The merits associated with web-based solutions such as Xythos` have caught the attention of a growing number of academic IT leaders. At the University of California, Irvine, which is consistently ranked by US News and World Report as one of the nation`s best public universities, Stephen Franklin is the Assistant Director for Academic Outreach, Network and Academic Computing Services -- and he agrees. ''Our responsibility is to provide a secure repository for institutional information that is generated by our faculty, staff, and graduate students. With the loss and theft of portable data storage such as PDAs, laptops, MP3 players, cell phones, and USB memory devices, it is even more important to have a readily accessible, secure backup for the institutional information stored on such units. Encryption can prevent the unauthorized disclosure of such information but does nothing to assure its continued availability. Irvine`s Xythos-based WebFiles service combines ubiquitous access with the security and privacy capabilities essential for a range of applications, from publishing and collaboration to controlling access to sensitive information,'' Franklin stated.
