SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Sept. 4, 2007--The Qwest Foundation today illustrated its commitment to public discourse, education and community service with a $10,000 donation to non-commercial KUED public television.

The donation will bolster KUED's Ready To Learn programming that educates, enlightens and entertains. KUED is Utah's premier public broadcasting television station (PBS), providing the full PBS schedule and serving the state of Utah plus parts of the four neighboring states with programs 24 hours a day.

"KUED has been providing Utah and the Intermountain West with thought-provoking programming for years, and I believe our communities really benefit from this," said Jerry Fenn, Qwest president for Utah. "This grant from the Qwest Foundation will enable KUED to continue its educational efforts and help ensure strong learning skills for kids through the Ready To Learn programming."

"The Qwest Foundation has been a generous supporter of KUED and public broadcasting for more than a decade," said Larry Smith, KUED general manager. "We are proud of our association with Qwest -- a company that promotes education and learning opportunities to help make our region's students even more successful."

Ready To Learn is public television's contribution toward our nation's most urgent educational goal: ensuring that all children begin school ready to learn. This national PBS/U.S. Department of Education program is designed to help kids ages 2-12 gain skills for achieving success in school and life by presenting quality, non-violent children's television programs; by featuring workshops for parents, teachers, librarians and child caregivers on how to teach with television; and by offering free books to children to increase their literacy levels. The program targets at-risk children and families statewide, rural residents and those with low incomes, limited English proficiency and disabilities.

About Qwest Foundation

The Qwest Foundation's core principle is that investing in people and communities provides lasting value for the future. The Qwest Foundation awards grants to community-based programs that generate high-impact and measurable results, focusing on pre-K through grade 12 education.
