WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Jul 24, 2002--Scenic America, a national conservation nonprofit, and EDAW, Inc., an international land-use consulting firm, are now accepting Scenic Solutions submissions, short case studies highlighting exemplary solutions to scenic issues.

Selected Scenic Solutions will be published as an interactive CD-ROM and distributed nationally in conjunction with the Scenic Summit: Action for America`s Communities, Countryside, and Public Lands, a major national conference scheduled for August 3 - 6, 2003 in Denver, CO. The deadline for submissions is October 15, 2002.

''Nationally, an alarming percentage of communities and countryside is being overrun by haphazard sprawl development, insensitive road projects, poor corporate franchise design, billboards, and other visual blight,'' said Meg Maguire, President of Scenic America. ''The majority of these issues are addressed at the local level, yet as a movement, scenic conservationists are largely unaware of how other communities are finding solutions to scenic issues. Scenic Solutions will help bridge this information gap and present Scenic Summit attendees, citizen activists, organizations, professionals, government officials, and other interested parties with projects showcasing the state-of-the-art in scenic conservation, which they can learn from and apply to their own scenic issues.''

The Scenic Solutions CD will provide an immediately useful resource for the professionals and activists working on scenic conservation in their communities and regions. Scenic Solutions may feature development projects, public involvement programs, community improvement projects, public policy, environmental or aesthetic education programs, and scenic or environmental mitigation efforts.

Potential Scenic Solution topics include design guidelines that help to define the built environment, conservation ballot initiatives, alternative franchise designs, environmental art programs, greenways and scenic byways, brownfield development, and other scenic issues.

A panel of nationally-recognized scenic conservation experts will review the submitted Scenic Solutions and choose case studies for inclusion on the final CD.

''There are many creative and dedicated people out there who have wonderful success stories. Scenic Solutions provides a tremendous opportunity for a nationwide exchange of this information for the benefit of everyone working to protect and enhance the aesthetic quality of America for future generations,'' said Craig Taggart, Senior Associate at EDAW.

Call for entries information and submission guidelines are available on the Scenic Summit website, www.scenicsummit.org, or by calling Scenic America at (202) 543-6200, ext. 18. There is no fee to submit a Scenic Solution.

Submissions are encouraged from a broad range of professions and disciplines including, conservation organizations, citizen activists, government agencies, design professionals, educators, students, and others.
