SCRANTON, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Jul 18, 2002--Sister Mary Reap, I.H.M., President of Marywood University has announced the appointment of six new members to the University`s Board of Trustees. The new members include: Joan Banick Brooks, Olney, MD; Joseph M. Cosgrove, Forty Fort; David Hawk, Dunmore; Mary Ellen Keating, New York, NY; David L. Kirtland, Clarks Summit, and Frank LaVerghetta, Ardmore.
Ms. Brooks recently served as Lockheed Martin Test Director for system deployment at three FAA Air Route Traffic Control Centers. She also maintains an active role in college recruiting for technical hiring in support of Air Traffic Management and Lockheed Martin corporate-wide placement. Mr. Cosgrove is a Conflict Counsel Public Defender in Luzerne County. He also serves as a Criminal Justice Act/Federal Public Defender Panel Attorney for the U.S. District Court/MDPA, Legal Services Consultant to the Pennsylvania Democratic Leader and the Democratic Caucus. He is a current member of the PACDL Board of Directors, and a resident scholar for the White Center for Law, Government and Human Rights, University of Notre Dame. Mr. Hawk is president and CEO of Gertrude Hawk Chocolates in Dunmore. The family- owned company manufactures chocolate and operates 50 retails outlets. Mr. Hawk is affiliated with several community-based organizations, including Scranton Tomorrow, Community Medical Center, Scranton Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Keating is senior vice president of corporate communications and public affairs for Barnes & Noble, Inc., New York. Locally, Ms. Keating served as executive director of communications for the Diocese of Scranton under the late John Cardinal O`Connor. Mr. Kirtland is president of Diamond K Incorporated, and DK Trading Corporation, Inc., a domestic and international paper broker, headquartered in Clarks Summit. He is also a member of the Institute of Recycling Industries and the Paper Stock Institute, Washington, D.C. Mr. LaVerghetta worked in the aerospace, engineering and industrial technology industries for most of his career including senior positions at Philco and Philco Ford. Mr. LaVerghetta and his late wife, Angela R. Sette, a Marywood graduate and former trustee of the University, have endowed scholarships at Marywood University, as well as the University`s Sette LaVergetta Center for Performing Arts.
